When they were first engaged, Janet and Rihanel were in love. However, after Janet’s three years in prison for burning down the chapel that Rihanel grew up in, their engagement is nothing more than a sham they keep up for financial reasons. Eventually, Rihanel says he will marry Janet on one condition: she will allow him to injure her ten times. Rihanel actually can see a person’s memories by touching their blood, and he wishes to seek out the secrets that run in Janet’s veins, including whether she truly loves him.
